While the Foundation encourages young people in all areas of broadcasting, it places particular emphasis on supporting the advancement and training in the spoken words formats, such as talk, news/talk and news formats.  These formats are the most demanding, require the most education and training, and in our republic, serve as America’s ‘Town Halls” where ideas are communicated and debated in communities across the nation.

No medium has been more instrumental in reaching, informing and inspiring Americans than radio.  Broadcast radio in the 21st Century is on-air, online, mobile, social, live and local!   It is critical that tomorrow’s thought leaders in the field of spoken word formats be prepared to articulate, defend, educate and communicate principals important to the millions of Americans reached daily by radio.  The Foundation provides financial support as well as equipment and expertise to educational organizations, including scholarships, to programs that teach and train in the fields of broadcast communications and media.
